What do you like to fish for?

Clarias batrachusI could sit for hours with a pole off the dock, using minnows as bait, catching Crappie and Blue Gills! Crappie is my favorite fish to cook up for a fish fry! I havent found anyone that can cook it any better than my Dad, Lee! YUM! Your location probably has a lot to do with it too. Different parts of the country contain different types of fish. Family is a definite influence. A few years back, we as a family, were featured in the newspaper because we had several generations on one dock-all of us fishing! In loving memory of Grandma Stechman who LOVED to fish! There was a time when she would want to be there all day! Just as I do! Funny how we follow in the footsteps of the people we love and respect so much! We miss you Grandma! I like to catfish too but for me anyway, takes a little more patience! The thought of dipping your hands into stink bait, baiting that fishing pole, catching a slimy fish, then cutting it to pieces probably sounds repulsive for many girls and females! But for me, it is just another fun day! I lived on the Gulf Coast for many years and went fishing only a few times, I only wish I had went out on one of those rental fishing boats and caught something big! How Fun! Maybe I will someday be able to visit all my family in Florida and they can show me what fun a big catch really is! Well I had fun today just talking about fishing. Now, I will wait for your comments so I can read about your great fishing story! Please leave your comments about fishing if you enjoyed this post!

  1. Hey Amy. Liked your fishing piece. I am 63 years old and have been fishing since I was old enough to hold a cane pole. My favorite fish to catch is crappie. I also love to catfish. Biggest one I caught is around 30 pounds. Really if I think about it I would love to fish for anykind of fish. My parents loved to fish and we went all the time we could. Guess I come by it naturally. I was lucky enough to live by my Mother. So we went fishing all the time till she was about 80. We need to have a fishing reunion!!!! Dottie

  6. I remember one time I went fishing and as usual I just new that the fish would be biting better on the other side of the levee. So my friend and I took our fishing poles and bait and went across the levee to catch bigger crappie. Just after we got there I started down the bank to cast next to a fallen tree. All of the sudden both my feet went out from under me. Terrible pain went shooting thru my ankle. I new I had broken it!! My friend laughed as he thought I was joking. But I wasn't. We were about a quarter mile from the boat. He fixed me a crutch to help. I had to cross fallen trees , a fence and the levee covered in large rocks. Very painful !! We finally made it back to town and to the emergency room.So fish don't always bite better across the levee!!!! I had a great time anyway!!!LOL-- Dottie
